Thomas Hardeeville RV Park - Campground Review

If you want to visit Savannah, GA., then you should stay here!!  It is a great location.  You are only 15 minutes to Tybee Island or downtown Savannah.  :)  Technically, you are in South Carolina, but the border is only a few minutes away.

Price - $21/night -includes tax, cable, wifi, and full hook-ups!  (with Passport America membership)

Amenities - cable, wifi and a laundry, but I did not use it while we were here.  You also need to be 'self-contained' because there is not a bathhouse.

We felt safe here, the grounds are well kept and the sites were pretty level.  We would definitely stay here again, if we are in the area.  You can not beat the price!

The Angel Oak Tree

Why would anyone want to drive to the outskirts of Charleston to look at a tree?

A road that literally ends up in the middle of no where on a dirt road!

To see a tree?!

Well, we did......And I am SOOO glad we did.


There is NOT another tree like this ANYWHERE!

In all of its majestic glory, it was mahhhhvelous!  (do you hear the angels' singing?!)


This live oak is almost 400 years old!  It was here before the pilgrims!

Take a moment to notice how LONG each branch has stretched!

Some branches are so long, that over time, they have grown INTO the ground and came back out!!

We also noticed one of four, white squirrels running around.  It was kinda creepy and kinda cute, all at the same time.  :)

To give you an idea of how enormous this tree really is, here we are standing at the base!  There is no way to capture its beauty through a camera lens.

So, you will just have to go to Charleston and see it for yourself! HA!

Charming Charleston, SC.

Well, we had some unfinished business and a few rv repairs, so we decided to go north again, and visit Charleston, SC. :)  I  love the freedom of life on the road.  I love that if we get a 'wild hair' we can just GO!  :)

Zach and I were SO excited to see this!  Here is Thomas Heyward's, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and town home of George Washington!  SO, so, so COOL!

Charleston is such a beautiful city, filled with one gorgeous, southern home after another.  It also has many, many churches, including the FIRST, First Baptist Church of AMERICA.

I could walk the streets of Charleston for hours and admire all the character and detail, however, I was not going to drive my five, lovely children into an early grave by doing that to them! :)

I LOVE the old gas lamps by the front doors.

Many of the streets are 'hugged' by the beautiful trees.

We plan on visiting Charleston, SC. again in the future, so we can see Fort Sumter; where the Civil War first began.
 But, for now, we just enjoyed a special day in a very special part of our country.

Natural Gifts

Part of the full-timing experience that we want to give our children, is the 'natural surroundings' that we can find from state to state.  I LOVE how different each state looks, and 'feels.'  Some have mountains, pines, deserts, beaches and on and on.  Some states 'feel' more friendly or patriotic.  But each one has something special to offer.


Welcome to South Carolina!  You will find swamps, wet lands, beaches and GATORS!


At the Oaks at Point South Campground, there is a lovely sign that lead us crazy curious-minded visitors towards the back of the park.  There are 3 lakes and lots of grass to take a calm stroll.  Then, if your looking......... carefully....

You will find a 6 foot Alligator!  In the natural setting!  NOT in a zoo.  Not behind a fence.  Just OUT there for you to see!!!

TOO COOL!

This part of our traveling just never gets boring.  You just don't know what might be around the bend, down the hill, or on the bank of a pond.  ;)

Take the time to look for the 'gifts' the Lord has given!  They are everywhere.

The Oaks at Point South - Campground Review

While we visited North Charleston, Beaufort and Parris Island, we stayed at this Thousand Trails park for 2 weeks in Yemassee, SC.  It was right off the freeway, but set back in the woods, so it was very quiet.  It felt as if we were camping in the woods, surrounded by moss-covered live-oak trees.  I also thought it was pretty nice, because it is relatively small.

Price -$3/night

Amenities -the bath house was clean, and the laundry was cheap and worked great!  There is a small game room and gathering room, too.

Staff -they were so friendly and helpful


The only downer about the campground, is its location.  Everything is at least 30 minutes away, but with our membership price of $3/n, it was worth the stay.

Harper's & Golden's Sweet Reunion!

Last year, we met the Harper family, on the road, in Arizona.  We spent a couple of weeks with them and became the BEST of friends!  Ever since, we have been emailing and skyping and trip planning, all with the hopes of seeing each other again.

Well, the reunion has happened here in South Carolina!  Yep.  On the eastern side of the country this time.  :)

It has been so much fun eating and hanging out with them.

Janet is SO creative and planned all these great games.  Both of our families are EXTREMELY competitive, so it is such a hoot!  We have a whole lot of fun stuff planned for the coming weeks, too.  (Thanksgiving, Christmas, NFL games, and Tim Hawkins Concert, just to name a few!)

Yeah for wonderful friendships!  I feel so blessed.  :)

Parris Island Marine Base

Both our boys are EXTREMELY interested in joining the military.  So, while we are traveling all over America, we are speaking with veterans and visiting military bases.

As you drive further into the Parris Island Marine Base, you are welcomed with this huge sign. :)

The Manning family followed us over to take in the sights and sounds of this military action!  Here are some of the soldiers drilling with their weapons.

We sat quietly listening to this drill sergeant as he lead his troops.

It was awesome to see the groups marching and drilling simultaneously with others.  It was truly a patriotic moment for all of us.

On the base, we visited the free museum.  We were running out of time, but you could spend a whole day in there!  It was full of information about the Marines.  So interesting.

One of our favorite parts were the pictures of the marines going through the Crucible.  You Have to complete this excruciating week before you can graduate as an official Marine.

Totally cool Hummer!

When the 'fresh' boys, right off the bus, show up at the base, they are told to stand on the yellow feet.  I think it is awesome how they are immediately put into training, right from the first second.  Minutes after this, they shave their heads and are off and running in boot camp!

Manning Family, it was so fun spending the day with you!  Hope to see you again soon!

Kazoo Factory Tour!

Our time in Beaufort, SC. was super fun!

Did you know that in this tiny town, MILLIONS of kazoos are made, sold and shipped all over the world?

Look at this HUGE wooden kazoo!

The tour was $4.00 a person, and we were shown how they make them.  The kids even got to make their own. :)  YEAH!

This kind lady was so great.  She shared all kinds of facts, and played several different kinds of kazoos.  I had NO idea that the kazoo was as popular as it is, and has so many varieties, too.

We met up with the Manning family, whose girls are absolutely adorable!  Talk about a giggly-fun time!

Can you imagine building ALL those kazoos?!  On average, there are only 3 employees that work each day to fill the orders!  They have it all down to an exact art, that is for sure!

So many kazoos, so many colors to choose from!

Whoo hoo!  By the end of the day, I was wondering WHY I let them go to a Kazoo Factory!?!?!

Family in South Carolina

Last week, we met up with my aunt Lee Ann and her girls for an afternoon at the park.  This was so special for me. :)  Ever since I was a little girl, this amazing woman has captured my heart!  She has SO much energy.  She is SO smart.  She is SO beautiful.....inside and out.

Gracie and Jesse are my girls' ages, so they were off and running in no time!


Yeah, Tanner had fun at the playground, too. :)

We had a simple day of playing and talking and catching up.  But it was priceless.

The park has this big hill, that everyone loves to run and 'sled.'

See.  There is another use for cardboard boxes!  HA!

Traveling full-time on the road has opened up wonderful opportunities to meet up with family!

What a blessing!
