Not far from our campsite, in Ona, Fl., is an interesting place. I had heard of Solomon's Castle and thought the kids, especially Zach and Hannah (my creative/genius type children) , would find it so thought provoking. We were so pumped when they gave us the 'educator's discount' too! BONUS!
The entire castle is covered in these old aluminum newspaper plates! It also glistens iridescent colors, when the sun shines. :)
Mr. Solomon has SO many artistic abilities, that I honestly can't remember them all, but in this castle, his love of art and creativity abounds!
Every single part of his home has his special touch.
Whether it is painting the floors, mosaics, woodwork, inlays, metals and much, much more, you come to appreciate all the years and years of work that has gone into this masterpiece. (74 years in fact!)
All of these animals are made from metal clothes hangers!
This picture just does not do this circus act justice!
Our guide was quite funny and shared so many tid-bits.
These objects below, were made from Mr. Solomon when he was as young as FOUR YEARS OLD!
Others were at the age of 10.
Truly, the Lord blessed him with this gift.
Inside his kitchen, yep, we were in his kitchen!....there was on old, homemade elevator, beautiful, stained glass windows, lights, and cabinets, all made from Mr. Solomon.
There he is! As we were on the tour, he just happened to walk on by. :) Too fun.
This is the 'Boat in the Moat' which is also a restaurant, serving everything from BBQ ribs to soups and salads.
Afterwards, our friendly tour guide took a break, while Hannah asked him a variety of questions for her journal. He was so kind and PATIENT!
Then, we finished our tour outside, strolled on over to the workshop, to find......
MR. SOLOMON, himself! YEAH!
He may look a little dated or fragile, but something tells me, that this guy has MANY more projects up his sleeve. :)
After a visit to Texas, he was so impressed by the Alamo's history, that he came back home and built a replica! Who does this?!
Mr. Solomon. :)
Only in America! I love that we can use our creative juices to inspire and encourage others in this wonderful country!
Blessings,
Steph
