150th Anniversary!!!

We visited the Civil War Museum on April 12th, the 150th anniversay of when the Civil War began; April 12, 1861.  When we arrived, I was met by a camera crew from FOX 4 News, and actually had a small interview with them.  I discussed our desire to visit this nation and learn of its history by experiencing it the best we can. :)  It was just too cool that we were able to visit on this date!

It was just such a privilege to see all the artifacts in this one plantation style museum.  From confederate's pocket knives, muskets, and rifles, to bugles, flags, and drums.  They had old "housewives" that still contained loved ones pictures inside of them!  It was a sad reminder of how war affects so many.

It pains me to think of so much anger and frustration and greed from fellow Americans, that a war had to occur.  All who fought, whether from the North or South, fought for what they thought was right, and were willing to lose everything.  The bravery in these souls was also revealed through out the museum as well.

Here, stands a statue of Robert E. Lee.

This beautiful sword was presented to Ulysses S. Grant by Abraham Lincoln himself.  :)

Oh, the dresses and little girl clothes were GORGEOUS!
Here, the girls chose their favorite out of about 30 different dresses displayed!

If you could have heard her squeals of joy when she walked into this part of the museum! Ha! :)

This museum was a great experience.  The sweet owner of the museum gave all the kids free candycanes too, because Tanner completed a 2 page scavenger hunt. :)  Bonus! :)

Blessings,
Steph
