Close to Astoria, OR., is a small town, Hammond, where we spent 3 days at this unique state park.
Zach was in absolute awe when he came upon this shipwreck which is obviously still on display, from the early 1900's!
The kids found plenty of room to run, whether is was on grassy hills,........
Or on the beach! Tanner saw a huge crab swim by him, and he caught a jelly fish!
The sand is pristine, even though it is a dark gray. Against the baby blue water, it is just a beatuiful beach.
We also visited the Military museum close by.
Ft. Stephens was an active fort during the Civil War, WWI and WWII. We were able to walk around and take our time examining and playing at this impressive place! Our western coast was securely defended right here. Cool. :)
Inside of the museum, they show how the soldiers would have dressed, whether it was in the Civil War, WWI or WWII. They also had pictures of the real soldiers that were stationed here. I LOVE that part of it, because then, I am able to visualize and personalize WHO lived and served on these grounds.
Amazing machinary, still there!
They have a replica longhouse that the Clatsop indians would have lived in, which was pretty interesting too.
Blessings,
Steph
