Fun in Astoria, OR.!!!

Yes.  That is Zach.  Covered in sand.  Head to toe.  Not by accident.  ON PURPOSE!   :)

The kids amaze me with all the ideas they come up with.  Rolling in the sand?  Oh, yeah.  They had a blast!

We spent some time driving around the unique, small town of Astoria one day, and happened upon a wonderful attraction.  (traveling brings all sorts of surprises around every corner!)
The Column of Astoria:

It was built by Vincent Astor, the grandson of John Jacob Astor, the founder of Astoria, whom sank in the Titanic tragedy.
This grand structure was built in 1926 out of concrete and steel.  The pictures carved around the entire column are just awesome, depicting history.

Believe me, it was NOT an easy climb up the 164 stairs to reach the top, but I am SO glad we all did it, and shared in the accomplishment.  :)

The views are breath taking and peaceful.

Here were the Coast Guard ships coming in.

(yes, we had to do a silly picture.....it must have had to do with the altitude or something!)

Blessings,
Steph
