Disappointments & Trials in Manhattan, KS

Well, it has been a while since I've been able to blog.  It is not that I did not want too, but that I couldn't!  I have actually gotten to the point where I really enjoy blogging! :)  It is relaxing, actually, to sit back and think about our days and document what we are learning or seeing on our trip.

Last week, we spent a few days at a Corp of Engineers Campground, Tuttle Creek Park.  It has a gorgeous view, and we felt like we were on our own little island, being surrounded by water, and literally only one or two other campers.  :)  The downer was that it had AWFUL wifi access and it was cold and windy and  it rained almost the whole time!  They have several playgrounds and the kids were able to play, but ended up having water-logged, muddy shoes.  No biggie?  Right?  Well, it was frustrating when we needed to run into town and realized that all their shoes were still wet or muddy. :(  We were putting on sandals, flops, even dress-up shoes, just to get by!  Ha!  Todd even had to take his laptop and scanner/printer to the local Starbucks so he could work!  We survived, and we probably would have liked it better, had it been warmer, and less rainy.  :)

Yes, we went to the OZ museum!  It is in a little town called Wamego, just about 20 miles from Manhattan, so we decided to go.
Can you say, "CHEESY?"  The little ones enjoyed it a little, but Todd and I and the big boys, were REALLY disappointed to say the least!  We were SO pumped to go, and even rented the movie the night before and had a movie night.  It was just plain disappointing and cheesy!

In the museum, there were a lot of replicas and rebuilt the scenes from the movie, lots of posters and old artifacts and collectors items.
We wanted to see some REAL stuff, like Dorothy's shoes or dress or something!

Our little "wizard!"
Below, there is a replica house, and if you look closely, you can see wicked-witch of the east's feet sticking up in the air!  :)

So, that was pretty much it.  It did cost us $30 for the whole family, which REALLY frustrated Todd.  But, you know, sometimes, that is just the way it goes.
Blessings,
Steph
