Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, Republic, MO.

And this is Wilson's Creek. :)
While we were staying in Branson, we decided to drive about an hour to Republic, so we could visit this park and earn another Jr. Ranger badge!  This park was HUGE.  You actually had a visitor's center, a museum, and then had to get in your vehicle to tour the acreage of the battlesite!
This is the Ray house, as it was in 1861 during the Civil War.  We had a guided tour that was really interesting.  The Ray family on that particular morning were literally beginning their day, fixing to eat breakfast, when, suddenly, they saw a line of soldiers across the corn field and heard shots.  Ma grabbed the biscuits and they all head down into their cellar.  Hours later, they saw wounded and dying soilders all over their property, and the house immediately became a hopital.

Here is where General Lyons laid while wounded, and later died.  Not another General had died since 1812, so this was pretty significant.

Here is the entrance into the cellar inside the Ray Home.

This was the "spring house" that the Ray children would fetch water from, for the wounded soldiers to either give them something to drink, or clean their wounds.  It was a good 50 yards downhill from the house, so as you can imagine, those kids had quite an exhausting day trying help all those in need.

On the battlefield site, there were many cannons.  This one is on "Bloody Hill."

Here, is a display of articacts from Genreal Lyons, including his record log, sword, and if you look at the bottom, the white blanket was laid over his body, on the Ray's bed.

This was a great battlesite to visit, and was on absolutely beautiful countryside.  The kids earned their badges, and Parker recieved some miniature soilders!

Blessings,
Steph
