Coon Rapids, Minnesota

We are north of Minneapolis, MN., and it is HOT!  WHAT!??  It was 100 DEGREES in MINNESOTA people!  How is this happening?!  Now, tomorrow it is supposed to be a cool 60, and that will be much more like it! :)  So for now, we are sweating.

I have been down and out pretty much since Saturday, with a cough and cold, but today I started feeling like a human being again, so I decided to venture out and take the kids to the local dam.  It is actually part of the National Park Service, so they earned their 10th Jr. Ranger badges! :)

This is the Coon Rapids East Dam of the Mississippi River.  It was HUGE, and showed how powerful large amounts of water can be pretty intimdating.  Here is where the Mississippi begins!

The dam was actually built in 1913, and was once made of metal, but were recently covered with a durable rubber!  Interesting....

We saw a large family of geese hanging out right by our table where we worked on the booklets.  And we also notice really large catfish (atleast 15 pounds) in the river as well.
The visitor's center was small and honestly not very "kid friendly."  But, the staff was very helpful and friendly when we had questions. :)

YEAH!  Golden Gang!  You have earned your 10th Jr. Ranger Badge! :)

Blessings,
Steph
