We have arrived in our 7th state on this journey and made it to Austin, Minnesota!! :)
The FIRST place we HAD to visit was the SPAM Museum!
The really funny thing is, is that we actually went to the wrong address. It was the factory......
Can you say, "AWFUL!?" It smelled SO bad!
Here we are walking up to the visitor's office. ;)
Once we were sent to the correct address, it smelled MUCH better! HA!
Inside the Museum, you could tell that Hormel has put a lot of pride into this product. They truly went all out for this venture.
In the lobby there is a display of stacked cans of SPAM. 3500 cans of SPAM! They say it could feed you for 10 years if you ate one a day!
They had a great set up of the German man, George Hormel, who started the Hormel family business and his personal story of hard work and perseverence.
There were conveyor belts of SPAM, a store of SPAM and Hormel products, and even a Game Show involving the many details about SPAM!
The museum also had a fun set up for the kids to put on their protective coats and hats to package and ship the newly produced SPAM.
So, what did we do when it was all said and done?
We bought some cans of SPAM!! We went to the "Admiral" and fried up some lovely appetizers of Peppered SPAM and Bacon SPAM. :)
Thumbs up! They actually like it! Go figure.
Do you know that Hormel was a HUGE contributor to feeding our troops in WWII? Meat in a can may not seem very appetizing, but it does fill your belly! :)
Thanks so much Hormel and the SPAM museum in the wonderful city of Austin, MN. We had a great time!
Blessings,
Steph
We SO enjoy reading your blog! The kids often ask me to "check and see what the Goldens are doing today" ;-) Praying for y'all and rejoicing during this wonderful time of your lives!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog. You are a beautiful mother with a beautiful spirit and heart for your children. I am so happy to have found a like-minded sister to read and be encouraged by! I am a 39 year old momma to three so far - ages 6, 4 and nearly 2. Our 4th baby went to be with Jesus at only 14 weeks gestation... We are hoping God will bless us with a new little person some day. Anyway, I love your wonderful blog. I found you looking up something about Laura Ingalls Wilder. I am a huge, long time fan of her books and writings. I see you are too. :) Keep up this fantastic blog and sharing your journey. It is such a blessing!
